Hawaiian Volcano Update + SPECIAL on AI generated imagery
4:24 AM · Jul 7, 2023Kilauea and Mauna Loa this week have been quiet, both volcanoes are in repose/ recharge period and gradually inflating. Since volcanic activity is calm, we want to explore the capacities of AI-generated "art". We have a bunch of AI-generated images of Hawaii created with a range of styles using five of the largest players in the AI imagery world: MidJourney, DALL-E 2, Stable Diffusion, BlueWillow, and Adobe's Firefly. We will test each of their capabilities and strengths with a focus on Hawaii and disasters, particularly our volcanoes. Some of these images are meant to look real and are pretty convincing for the uninitiated viewer. We've seen how Kilauea and Mauna Loa erupt, but none of us have seen Hualalai, Mauna Kea, or Diamond Head erupt... but these generative AIs can give a glimpse of what that might look like. In our standard practice, our live presentation provides a review of recent changes based on monitoring data, images, and reports. These insights are sourced from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, today supplemented by media contributions from viewers and other sources. https://youtube.com/live/eF-PkjCHQWI
