Mauna Loa since 1984 has been a sleeping giant. The previous 150 years is a different story, with a new eruption happening every several years on average. USGS-HVO has released a new map showing the past eruptions since 1843 and the lava hazard zones on Mauna Loa. Flows shown include the 1880-1881 eruption that threaten Hilo, the 1859 radial eruption, and the massive 1950 eruption.
