Kīlauea Eruption Update: Another 3 Pauses In 2 Weeks, January 6, 2022
3:06 AM · Jan 7, 2022In the past two weeks, Kīlauea's eruption was nearly as likely to be paused as it was to be spewing lava. Another three interruptions to the volcano's output lasted a combined six days, but the lava has once again returned in sync with the cyclic underground magma pressure. We review the details, while still noting no change in threat to people, using webcams, monitoring signals and reports courtesy of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. We briefly discuss Maunaloa and other Hawaiian volcanoes, discuss live viewer questions, and annotate graphics as usual, while preparing to share USGS presentations from the current Volcano Awareness Month for our broadcast next week.
