NWS Flash Flood Advisory In North Hawaii, Flood Watch For The Rest Of Big Island
9:32 PM · Jan 18, 2021Flood Watch is in effect for Hawaii island, with a Flood Advisory for the northern tip of the island. Statement from NWS: The Flash Flood Watch continues for The Big Island Through Tuesday afternoon. A cold front will stall the Big Island today through Tuesday. A low aloft combined with strong north and northeast winds will help enhance precipitation along windward and mountain areas. These areas, especially around the Hamauka coast, will see the greatest risk for flash flooding. At 1031 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the far northern portion of the Big Island from near Honokaa, to Hawi, to south of Mahukona. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, and the area of heavy rainfall was nearly stationary. Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kapaau, Pololu Valley, Halaula, Kohala Ranch, Waimanu Valley, Hawi, Waipio Valley, Kamuela, Kukuihaele and Mahukona. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for all of the Big Island until 6 pm HST Tuesday.
