Hawaiian musical legend Willie K passed away Monday evening, 18 May 2020, at his Maui home following a 2-year battle with lung cancer. He was 59 years old. Willie K (full last name Kahaiali’i) began playing music as a boy. His professional music career took off in the 1990s. Over the years he recorded over a dozen albums under multiple labels, and also worked as a producer, promoter, and actor. The Hawaii Department of Education today (3-19-20) released the following information about student meal service for children 18 and younger: "During the extended closure [currently through April 7], HIDOE will continue to provide student meals, including providing grab-and-go breakfast and lunch at select schools to children 18 years and under at the following days and times: -Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. for breakfast. -Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for lunch. -Note: Meals will not be served on Thursday, March 26 in observance of Prince Kuhio Day. Absolutely beautiful view this afternoon from the USGS-HVO webcam positioned on the north rim of Mokuʻāweoweo, the summit caldera of Mauna Loa. This webcam and others hosted by USGS are available here on the Tracker website--click on the volcano icon at the upper right corner and select "webcams" from the drop-down menu. A Winter Weather Advisory and Wind Advisory remain in effect for Big Island summits until 6pm today.

The other day I was looking at the visual satellite image and it looked like the snow in the caldera had melted. Looks like more fell by now.
