Drones On - May 16th and 17th, 2018 Kilauea Eruption - The Calm Before The Storm

Combined footage of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption, May 16th and 17th. Phase 1 of the eruption comes to a close as more fluid, hotter, lava begins to make its way to the surface. Halema'uma'u creates an ash cloud 30,000 ft tall, hurling large rocks into the Jaggar Museum parking lot inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Fissure 21 opens in lower Leilani Estates as several fissure reactivate. This series tells one version of the 2018 Kilauea eruption on the Lower East Rift Zone, where lava erupted in a residential neighborhood. The story is told through available footage from many sources, including USGS, Hawaii Count Civil Defense, DoD, National Guard, DLNR, and private citizens. This series will go through each day of the eruption and tell the story from the lens of a Leilani Estates resident. The purpose of this series is to give a little more understanding of what it was like for a volcano to erupt in the middle of a community in which you call home.
