M4.1 Earthquake on the South Flank of Kīlauea Near Pu'u 'Ō'ō
12:36 AM · Feb 2, 2021A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded at 2:13pm with a depth of 6.3km (3.9 mi) and located 5km (3 mi) south of Pūʻuʻōʻo. The depth and location of the earthquake are associated with adjustment of the South Flank of Kīlauea volcano. Earthquakes along the South Flank have been relatively frequent following the M6.9 at the depth of the most recent quake. The earthquake was felt as far as Laupahoehoe, with multiple reports of people feeling the movement in Hilo, via USGS. The initial, automatically generated estimation of M3.8 was upgraded upon review by a USGS Seismologist to M4.1.
